‘King Of Oil’ Being Primed For Big Screen By BB Film Productions

EXCLUSIVE: Uri Singer’s BB Film Productions has acquired rights to Daniel Ammann’s book The King Of Oil: The Secret Lives Of Marc Rich, the biography about the billionaire commodities trader and Glencore founder who was indicted in the U.S. for tax evasion and illegal oil dealings with Iran during the Iran hostage crisis. Swiss multi-hyphenate Daniel Turcan, who is also co-producing Michael Almereyda’s upcoming Marjorie Prime alongside Singer, will be coming on board as partner at BB Film in time for the project.

The King Of Oil gets up and close with Rich as he divulges everything from his divorce to the invention of the spot oil market which made his fortune and changed the world economy. The book follows his rise from child Holocaust survivor to the wealthiest and most powerful oil and commodities trader, in particular his unpublicized dealings with Ayatollah Khomeini’s Iran, Fidel Castro’s Cuba, and his backroom dealings with the Israeli and U.S. governments. Rich was in Switzerland at the time of the indictment and never returned to the U.S., living out his life in exile until his death in 2013.

BB Film Productions recently announced the addition of Geena Davis to the cast of Marjorie Prime, opposite Jon Hamm and Lois Smith. The company previously produced Almereyda’s Experimenter, which plays the New York Film Festival prior to its October 16 release through Magnolia Pictures.
