‘Twin Peaks’: Robert Knepper Joins Cast

I have learned that Robert Knepper has joined the cast of David Lynch’s upcoming new installment of his groundbreaking 1990 mystery series. The project has been shrouded with secrecy, so noone is commenting but I hear Knepper has been tapped for a recurring role on the new season for Showtime alongside fellow new addition Amanda Seyfried.

The only actor officially confirmed for the new Twin Peaks is original star Kyle MacLachlan who is set to reprise his role as Dale Cooper. Many other fan favorite characters from the ABC run of the series are expected to return. “You should be optimistic that the people you want to be there will be there, in addition to some surprises,” Showtime president David Nevins said last month. That reportedly included Catherine Coulson, who played the memorable Log Lady, though it is unclear whether she had been able to film any new footage. Coulson died of cancer earlier this week. I hear among those coming back is David Patrick Kelly, reprising his role as Jerry Horne. Richard Beymer had been rumored to also resurrect his character of Jerry’s brother Benjamin.

Twin Peaks has been in production for about two weeks, with Lynch directing. He is expected to shoot the series continuously as a movie, and later cut it into episodes. I hear that’s how the new installment was written by Lynch and Frost, as one long script.

Knepper, whose series credits also include TNT’s Public Morals, A+E’s Texas Rising, NBC’s Heroes, is ecurring on CW’s iZombie and will be seen in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. He is repped by Innovative Artists and LINK Entertainment. Kelly, who has been recurring on The Blacklist, is with Paradigm.
