New Bond Theme ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ Released – Listen Here

After months of playing coy that, at one point, saw the singer-songwriter denying outright that he was even working on it, Sam Smith has put “Writing’s On The Wall,” the official theme song from the upcoming James Bond film Spectre, online following its UK radio debut earlier this morning. Haven’t heard it yet? Here you go:

By now you’re probably aware that “Writing’s On The Wall” hasn’t been met with the explosion of universal acclaim that Adele’s incredible title track from Skyfall received in 2012. But is it bad? I’ve listened to this thing five┬átimes, and honestly I can’t tell you quite how I feel about it. The melody and arrangement are wonderful, and I actually like Smith’s singing voice a lot. But the lack of meaningful percussion is really driving me crazy. It’s all buildup, no release. Kind of like how you’d feel if you were a British superspy interrupted in the middle of a very successful date by a henchman bent on killing you, and afterward all you felt like doing was drinking another vodka martini and going to bed.

“Writing’s On The Wall” is available for streaming on exclusively on Spotify or for purchase exclusively on iTunes. Meanwhile, what do you think? Shake or stir things up in comments.

Spectre, the 24th (official) James Bond film and Daniel Craig’s fourth outing as the savior of British imperialism, hits theaters November 6.
