NBC’s ‘The Player’ Adds Eric Roberts For Guest Role

EXCLUSIVE: There’s going to be an Expendables reunion of sorts October 8 on NBC. That’s when Eric Roberts will show up on the Wesley Snipes-led series The Player. In what I hear is a one-time appearance, The Dark Knight actor will play imprisoned ex-crime boss Pauly Agostino on the new 10 PM drama, which debuts tonight. The character is described as being racked by pain, but the old man still holds a lot of sway with the underworld he used to command.

The Player stars Snipes as self-styled pit boss Mr. Johnson, who oversees the player Alex Kane (Strike Back’s Philip Winchester) and the dealer Cassandra King (Wolf Hall’s Charity Wakefield) as they try to avert anticipated crimes. The juice of the action-heavy, Vegas-set show by created John Rogers and John Fox is that the crimes are being bet on by the super-rich as a way of keeping them out of trouble and international intrigue. As the father of a close friend of Kane’s murdered ex-wife, Roberts’ Agostino character plays a role in the greater narrative arc of the series.

While Snipes and Roberts were both in the Sylvester Stallone action franchise, as was seemingly every guy who used a gun onscreen in the 1980s, the two haven’t been in the same flick in the series – yet.

Roberts is repped by Marlowes and Scott Carlson Entertainment.
