Venice-Winning ‘El Clan’ Helmer Pablo Trapero Signs With CAA

EXCLUSIVE: Days after he won Best Director Silver Lion honors at the Venice Film Festival for El Clan, Argentinian director Pablo Trapero has signed with CAA. While the fall festivals have been unexpectedly light on the  deal making front, the other measures of success come in launching fall films and agencies signing emerging talent. In Trapero, CAA got one of Argentina’s most prominent directors.

pablo traperoTrapero’s film opened last month in Argentina and broke records there for best domestic box office opener. He produced it with Hugo Sigman and Matias Mosteirin from K & S Films; El Deseo’s Agustín Almodóvar, Pedro Almodóvar and Esther Garcia; plus Telefe. Trapero has just arrived in Toronto for El Clan‘s North American premiere Wednesday night, where it is competing in the first year of TIFF’s Platform program, which is designed to champion the next generation of international filmmakers. El Clan was released by 20th Century Fox with Fox International Pictures in Latin America and Fox will release in the U.S.

el clanTrapero has twice had films nominated for Best Foreign Language Film Oscars, for Lion’s Den and Carancho. Trapero, whose White Elephant premiered in Un Certain Regard at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, chaired the Cannes jury for Un Certain Regard at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
