McG To Direct New Line’s ‘The Babysitter’; ‘Monster Hunt’ Comes To North America

McG is set to direct The Babysitter, a new horror-comedy being set up through his Wonderland Sound and Vision at New Line. Based on a blacklist script by Brian Duffield that was the subject of a bidding war, the film is about a babysitter and a 12-year old boy during a crazy night when things go horribly wrong. Life and death lessons ensue. The film is being co-financed through a partnership between Zack Schiller of Boies/Schiller Film Group and Wonderland, with New Line execs Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter overseeing.

FilmRise has acquired North American rights to Chinese blockbuster Monster Hunt. The adventure pic, produced by Bill Kong’s Edko Films, led the unofficial blackout box office period this summer and now has over $380M in Chinese takings. If it crosses$391M it will beat Furious 7 to become the highest grossing movie of all time in the Middle Kingdom. With the film on release for more than 50 days already, the local powers that be appear determined to lap F7. Monster Hunt is directed by Shrek franchise veteran Raman Hui. Set in an ancient and magical world, the CGI-live action story centers on the race to protect a baby monster who is the subject of great envy. FilmRise is releasing in early 2016.
