Drafthouse Films has acquired North American distribution rights to writer-director Anders Thomas Jensen’s Men & Chicken, a wacky family comedy that has its North American premiere Monday in the Vanguard section at the Toronto Film Festival. Mads Mikkelsen goes anti-Hannibal in the story of two brothers who, through meeting their long-lost family, also discover a horrible truth about themselves. It’s the latest team-up between Jensen and Mikkelson, and the pic is on Denmark’s shortlist for its Foreign Language Oscar submission.
Drafthouse’s Fantastic Fest will present the U.S. premiere of Men & Chicken this month. A platform North American release is planned for the spring. David Dencik, Soren Malling, Nicolaj Lie Kaas and Nicholas Bro co-star.
“We’ve loved Anders’s work since we first saw Flickering Lights,” says Drafthouse Films COO James Emanuel Shapiro. “And Adam’s Apples is one of the big reasons why Fantastic Fest exists. Its exciting as a fan to work with him on his latest film.”
The pic is a production of M&M Productions, Studio Babelsberg, DCM Productions Production and produced by Kim Magnusson and Tivi Magnusson. It is executive produced by Joel Brandeis, Christoph Daniel, Christoph Fisser, Henning Molfenter, Marc Schmidheiny, Dario Suter, and Charlie Woebcken.
The deal was negotiated by Natja Noviani Rosner from LevelK and James Emanuel Shapiro of Drafthouse films.
Toronto kicks off today and runs through September 20.
