Universal Buys ‘Schooled’ Pitch For Amy Poehler’s Paperkite Productions Banner

EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures has acquired Schooled, a pitch that will be written by Erica Oyama that Amy Poehler will produce with Brooke Posch through their Paperkite Productions banner. They are keeping plot under wraps, but I’m told it involves the lengths a high-school teacher will go to gain the respect she feels she deserves. At this point, Poehler is attached as producer only.

This comes as Universal prepares for the release of sisters, which stars Poehler and her Golden Globes and Weekend Update hosting partner Tina Fey. Poehler is starring with Will Ferrell in The House. Her Paperkite produces Broad City for Comedy Central and Difficult People for Hulu. The label is producing Balls, a feature set at Universal. The pitch was brought in by Universal exec veep Erik Baiers.

Oyama wrote the first draft of White Girl Problems at Lionsgate, and she created Burning Love for Yahoo and E!, which starred her husband Ken Marino. He also directed the first season. She’s teamed with Marino writing Me Time at Universal with Will Packer producing, Go the F to Sleep at Fox 2000 with Karen Rosenfelt producing and True Freshman at Fox with 21 laps producing. Poehler and Paperkite are represented by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and Sloane Offer Weber & Dern. Oyama is represented by Paradigm and Principato-Young Entertainment.
