Here’s the first trailer for the pic that’s opening the Toronto International Film Festival this week. Oscar nominee and Southpaw star Jake Gyllenhaal stars in Demolition as Davis, a high-end investment banker trying to rebuild his life after he survives a car crash that killed his wife. A complaint letter to a vending machine company — written 10 minutes after the wife’s death — leads to a series of emotional and increasingly personal missives that catch the eye of a customer service rep (two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts) with issues of her own. As he tries to move on, the two bond and, with the help of her unusual son (newcomer Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild. Oscar winner Chris Cooper co-stars as Davis’ pressuring father-in-law.
Jean-Marc Vallee (Wild, Dallas Buyers Club) directed the film from writer Bryan Sipe. Mr. Mudd, Black Label Media and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment produced Demolition, which Fox Searchlight will open on April 8. It premieres Thursday in Toronto.
