Showtime Pilot ‘I’m Dying Up Here’ Casts ‘Me And Earl And The Dying Girl’ Star

Rising young actor RJ Cyler, who played Earl in indie darling Me And Earl And The Dying Girl, is the first regular cast in the hourlong Showtime dark comedy pilot I’m Dying Up Here. This marks the first series regular role for the 20-year-old who is on a peculiar streak, landing his career breaks on projects with “dying” in the title.

Written and executive produced by former stand-up comedian Dave Flebotte, executive produced by Jim Carrey and directed by Jonathan Levine, I’m Dying Up Here is is set in L.A.’s stand-up comedy scene of the 1970s. Cyler will play Adam, a struggling comedian willing to do anything — anything — to make it.

Michael Aguilar and Christina Wayne also executive produce the pilot, from Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment, which is based on the nonfiction book by William Knoedelseder.

Cyler, who has a recurring role on Danny McBride’s upcoming HBO comedy series Vice Principals, is repped by JLA Talent and Landis-Simon Management.
