Skylar Astin, Chris Lowell & Angelica Maria Join Epix’s ‘Graves’

Pitch Perfect‘s Skylar Astin, Chris Lowell (The Help, Veronica Mars) and Angelica Maria (Qué Bonito Amor, Sea Of Dreams) have been cast opposite Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon in the Epix original series Graves, a single-camera half-hour political satire produced by Lionsgate. Production is scheduled to begin this fall for premiere on Epix in autumn 2016.

epix logoIn Graves, 25 years after his presidency, former Commander in Chief Richard Graves (Nolte) has the epiphany that his policies have damaged the country for decades and so, with his young assistant (Astin), he goes on a Don Quixote-like journey to right his administration’s wrongs just as his wife (Sarandon), the former First Lady, decides to follow her own political ambitions.

Astin will play Isaiah Miller, a neurotic, over-eager assistant who goes to work for his political hero President Graves at the very moment that the ex-POTUS is tearing down his own legacy. WME-repped Lowell is Jeremy Graves, an underachiever who returns from the war in Afghanistan to face the real challenge of finding his life’s direction amid the everyday chaos of living with his presidential parents and self-destructive sister. María, repped by Crossover Entertainment, will play Ramona Alvarez, the wry housekeeper who has worked for President Graves since before he was elected and, as a result, grown comically desensitized to the daily dramas unfolding in the Graves household.

Astin, repped by Principal Entertainment LA, Authentic Talent and Literary Management and UTA, is known for his role as Jesse in the Pitch Perfect films. He also led the cast of TBS’ Ground Floor, which ran for two seasons, and starred in this season’s untitled NBA comedy pilot for ABC.

Graves was created by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) who will write, direct and executive produce the series. Oscar winner Greg Shapiro, Keith Eisner and Eric Weinberg also executive produce.
