Patti Lupone Upped To Regular On ‘Penny Dreadful’; Dr. Jekyll Joins Cast Of Characters

UPDATES, with Wes Studi as series regular: American Horror Story‘s Patti Lupone, who guest-starred last season as the Cut-Wife on Penny Dreadful, has been promoted to series regular in a new role for Season 3 of the Showtime drama. She will play Dr. Seward, an American therapist who treats Vanessa (Eva Green) with an unconventional new approach. Also, Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Henry Jekyll has been added to the lineup of literary characters featured in the show, to be played by Shazad Latif (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).

In addition, Wes Studi (Hell On Wheels, Red Road) has joined the cast as a series regular. He’ll play Kaetenay, an intense, enigmatic Native American who has a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett) and also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton). New guest stars added for Season 3 include Christian Camargo (Dexter) as Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Vanessa; Sam Barnett (2012) as Dr. Seward’s mysterious young secretary; and Jessica Barden (The Outcast) as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).

Penny Dreadful is created, written and executive produced by John Logan and executive produced by Logan’s Desert Wolf Productions, along with Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris, both of Neal Street Productions. The cast includes Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton and Eva Green. Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, Billie Piper, Simon Russell Beale, and Harry Treadaway also star. Penny Dreadful is a co-production with Showtime and Sky.
