‘Mr. Robinson’ Ratings On Par In Final Week; Will NBC Comedy Get Renewal?


Craig Robinson’s NBC comedy series has made a case for a second-season pickup with an OK summer run. The final two episodes last night drew a 1.0 in 18-49 and 4.2 million viewers at 9 PM and 0.9, 3.4 million at 9:30 PM. While the 9:30 PM results constitute lows for the series, the the demo dip was small and may be erased with time-shifted viewing. Also, after a strong start, Mr. Robinson‘s Week 2 and Week 3 ratings results matched those for last summer’s NBC comedy newcomer Undateable, which was renewed for a second season.

Undateable is a show that first got its traction in a summer launch last year, which was a strategic decision we made to find new ways to get comedies out of the fray of the September to May season,” NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said last week. “And we’re trying to do the same thing with two more new comedies this season, including Craig Robinson’s show Mr. Robinson, which debuted very strongly last week and, actually, last night held virtually 100 percent of Week 1’s audience.”

NBC may wait to see how the second new comedy series, The Carmichael Show, which will succeed Mr. Robinson, performs before making a renewal decision on both.

Most of the originals last night held steady. The top performers, CBS’ Big Brother (2.1 in 18-49) and NBC’s America’s Got Talent (1.6) were even with their fast nationals last week. Also on par were CBS drama Extant (0.7) and the CW’s America’s Top Model (0.4), while the rest of the programs fluctuated by a tenth: ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap (0.9) was up a tenth, and NBC’s Last Comic Standing (1.1) and the CW’s The Wicked Offer (0.2) were each down a tenth. NBC won the the night in 18-49 and total viewers.
