‘LBJ’ Finds Its Jackie In Relative Newcomer Kim Allen

EXCLUSIVE: Kim Allen (Army Wives, The Carrie Diaries) has signed on to portray Jackie Kennedy, the beloved first lady, in Rob Reiner’s upcoming feature LBJ. Woody Harrelson is portraying Lyndon Baines Johnson. Also in the cast are Bill Pullman and Richard Jenkins who both play politicians. Allen is a relative newcomer but won kudos for her lead role in Curfew which won the Oscar in 2013 for Best Short Film.

The script for LBJ, written by Joey Hartstone, was a 2014 Black List winner and focuses on the political upheaval that Vice President Johnson faced when he was thrust into the presidency in November 1963 after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

With political battles on both sides of the aisle, Johnson struggled mightily to heal a distraught nation and secure his presidency by passing Kennedy’s historic Civil Rights Act.

Jackie Kennedy, ever gracious, had to deal with quite a lot from LBJ, starting on the day her husband was murdered. In fact, LBJ was a hard man to like, according to those who knew him. For instance, initially LBJ did not want Jackie to fly back on Air Force One because as he said, ‘She was no longer First Lady,’ but that was ironed out in spite of him. Jackie’s brother-in-law Bobby Kennedy, who was Attorney General at the time of the assassination, was also rubbed the wrong way by LBJ‘s behavior and personality.

Jackie was the epitome of grace and revered by the nation for her show of strength after her husband’s death. Little did anyone know at the time, but she was also on sedatives during the funeral just to get through the elaborate ceremony.

LBJ is being produced by Acacia Entertainment, Savvy Media Holdings, Castle Rock Entertainment, and Star Thrower Entertainment. Matthew George is producing alongside Reiner, Liz Glotzer, Michael R. Williams, Tim White and Trevor White.

LBJ is being financed by Acacia Entertainment, Savvy Media Holdings, Tadross Media Group, Parkside Pictures and ITS Capital. Executive producers include Martin Shafer, Elizabeth A. Bell, Danny Roth, Allan Mandelbaum, Damiano Tucci, Michael Tadross Jr., Chris Conover and Julie May. Sales are being handled by Voltage Pictures (international) and CAA (North America).

Allen is repped by Lillian LaSalle at New York-based Sweet 180 and SMS Talent.
