ICM Partners has hired Jonathan Perelman, a former VP of Motion Pictures at BuzzFeed, to head the agency’s digital initiatives and to expand the agency’s business of repping digital content creators. His hiring displaces Keyvan Peymani who was brought aboard from Warner Bros. in 2012 to head up the division. Perelman starts today. Peymani, according to the agency, “will continue in his role as senior advisor to the ICM Partners Board in connection with ongoing initiatives.”
Like Peymani before him, Perelman will report directly to the talent agency’s founding partner, Chris Silbermann. “The world is changing so quickly so the people who are buying and selling content and the way people are interacting is constantly shifting,” said Silbermann. “We have 12 different departments — actually 13 with Jonathan — and he will work with every department.” In essence, Perelman will look to devise new business models for ICM clients, whether it be in developing new online content, direct-to-consumer technologies, to expanding their social imprint as well as seeking out new clients in the digital realm.
Perelman not only worked at BuzzFeed where he led strategy, operations, development and partnership, but he also spent six years at Google in finance and then for three and half to four years inside the company’s Gobal Industry Relations department helping outreach to other companies to help both sides with digital strategies.
During his stint at BuzzFeed (where he also served as VP of Agency strategy and Industry Development), Perelman was credited with helping the company to grow into one of the top video producers on the Internet, with 1.5 billion monthly views and releasing 75 original clips a week. He also was responsible for creating more than 20 syndication and content partnerships with top global social platforms and portals.
“I’ve been incredibly excited about joining ICM Partners,” said Perelman. “This agency is well suited for further expansion into the digital realm. With where digital is today and where it’s headed,” he said, he is very enthusiastic “about finding new entrepreneurial opportunities for our clients.”
Perelman also previously founded his own advisory company, Lighthouse Group, an independent global media and entertainment advisory firm serving start-ups; he serves on the board of many of them.
ICM Partners also promoted Bennett Sherman to agent in the digital department. Sherman, who has been with ICM Partners for five years, most recently served as an associate to further the efforts of the department.
