Neve Campbell Takes ‘Manhattan’, New WGN America Trailer Confirms

The first footage from the second season of WGN America’s nuclear drama Manhattan confirms actress Neve Campbell on board in a recurring role. Creator Sam Shaw’s fictionalized rendering of the 1940s’ Manhattan Project in Los Alamos and the build-up to the detonation of the Trinity A-bomb returns October 13, 9 PM ET.

Campbell (Mad Men, Party Of Five) will play Kitty Oppenheimer, wife of J. Robert Oppenheimer (the so-called father of the atomic bomb played on the series by a recurring Daniel London). WGN describes Kitty as “the formidable and mercurial First Lady of Los Alamos whose intersection with Abby Isaacs (Rachel Brosnahan) will affect both their husbands and the future of the project.” Brosnahan plays the wife of hotshot young scientist Dr. Charlie Isaacs (Ashley Zukerman).

The new trailer — with a clever “The Fallout Begins” intro — also confirms that actor John Benjamin Hickey gets to keep his job: his Frank Winter physicist character is back, following last season’s cliffhanger. Also on view is the first footage of William Petersen as Col. Emmett Darrow, described as “the enigmatic new ranking military officer at Los Alamos who feels called by God to usher in the atomic future and to spread American values across the globe.”

Manhattan was created by Shaw (Masters Of Sex), is produced by Lionsgate Television, Skydance Television and Tribune Studios, and exec produced by Shaw, The West Wing‘s Thomas Schlamme (who also directs), Dustin Thomason, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross.
