‘Scooby-Doo’ Animated Feature Planned At Warner Bros.

Scooby-Doo Where are You? At Warner Bros. Again — but this time it’s animated. The studio is planning an ani feature based on the beloved Hanna-Barbera cartoon with producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who reunite after American Hustle. The studio is also planting its flag for a September 21, 2018 opening. This one will be directed by Tony Cervone, who has a long affiliation with the company with Space Jam, Cartoon Network’s The Looney Tunes Show and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.

The film, a favorite childhood Saturday morning series, had prior live-action treatments with Scooby Doo in 2002 and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004, courtesy of Roven and Suckle. Those two films together grossed $457.1M worldwide. Not kidding.

Joining Roven and Suckle in producing duties will be Allison Abbate who produced not only the critically acclaimed (and much loved) The Iron Giant but also the Oscar-nominated features Fantastic Mr. Fox, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie.

Dan Povenmire (Phineas And Ferb, Family Guy) will also bring his creative sensibilities to the production as an executive producer. Family Guy? Could this be a more ascerbic Scooby? The screenplay is by Matt Lieberman (The Jetsons).

The new Scooby-Doo feature will be a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation under the Warner Animation Group banner.
