Asian films dominated major awards at the 68th Locarno Film Festival which wrapped today.
Hong Sang-soo’s Right Now, Wrong Then from South Korea took the Golden Leopard for best film and best actor prize for Jeong Jae-yeong. The relationship dramedy will also be screening at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (September 10-20) and at the New York Film Festival (September 25-October 11).
Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Happy Hour shared the best actress award among its main cast (Tanaka Sachie, Kikuchi Hazuki, Mihara Maiko and Kawamura Rira. The Japanese film also won a special mention for the movie’s script by Hamaguchi, Tadashi Nohara, and Tomoyuki Takahashi.
Outside the main competition, China’s Kaili Blues won two prizes: Best Emerging Director (Bi Gan) and a Special Mention for the First Feature award.
The Locarno competition jury was made up of Nadav Lapid, Udo Kier, Daniela Michel, Jerry Schatzberg and Mun So-ri.
