Cartoon Network today unveiled a digital launch plan for its full-length feature Regular Show: The Movie, ahead of its yet-to-be announced TV premiere date.
The 70-minute animated feature from the creative team behind the Emmy-winning series will be available for digital download on September 1 on electronic sell-through platforms, including iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Instant Video, Xbox, Playstation, VUDU and others, followed by its DVD release on October 13. The DVD will be distributed by Warner Home Video. Bonus content will be available in both the digital download version and DVD. Watch the trailer above.
The non-traditional rollout follows a growing trend of shows being released digitally and on-demand before their broadcast premiere.
Regular Show: The Movie centers on Mordecai and Rigby who, after accidentally creating a Timenado, have to go back in time and battle an evil volleyball coach in order to save the universe – and their friendship. Series creator J.G. Quintel directs, with Sean Szeles and Mike Roth serving as supervising producers. Featured voices include Quintel, William Salyers, Sam Marin, and Mark Hamill, each reprising their roles from the television series. The series, currently in its seventh season, airs Thursdays at 7:30 PM.
