‘Dad’s Army’ Trailer: Britain’s Fate Lies In Their Hands

Iconic British comedy series Dad’s Army, which ran on the BBC for nine seasons thoughout the 1970s, is getting a big-screen makeover with an all-star cast. Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon, Toby Jones and Catherine Zeta-Jones all feature in director Oliver Parker’s film adaptation. It is 1944, and World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmington-on-Sea, morale among the Home Guard is low. Their new mission then – to patrol the Dover army base – is a great chance to revive spirits and reputation, that is until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, setting the pulses racing and putting the local women on red alert. MI5 then discovers a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea. There’s a spy on the loose! The outcome of the war suddenly is at stake, and it falls to our unlikely heroes to stand up and be counted.

Hamish McColl (Mr. Bean’s Holiday, Johnny English Reborn) wrote the film, which is being released by Universal Pictures International. DJ Films produced it with the support of Screen Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Content Fund, the British Film Company, Worldwide Theatrix and Jimmy Perry Productions. Damian Jones produces with Jimmy Perry, Ann Croft, Penny Croft, Hugo Heppell, Steve Milne, Christian Eisenbeiss, Josephine Rose and Miles Ketley all serving as exec producers. Dad’s Army opens February 5.
