UPDATED: The CW is developing a new series based on The Notebook, the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks and the 2004 feature directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
Set in the late 1940s North Carolina, the series would follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters from the film, Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II. The film was narrated by older Noah telling the tale to his wife who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, something which may not be incorporated in the series.
“I don’t believe you are going to see the older couple” Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW, told reporters at the TCA Summer Press Tour today, adding that “things change.” The script for the project, first reported by Entertainment Weekly, is being penned by Todd Graff who serves as executive producer, along with Sparks and Theresa Park. Nicholas Sparks Prods and Warner Bros. TV will produce.
