Marjorie Kaplan To Lead Discovery’s International Content Strategy

Calling Discovery’s international business its “key differentiator,” CEO David Zaslav, and Discovery Networks International President JB Perrette today announced the appointment of Marjorie Kaplan to a newly-created post. A 20-year veteran of Discovery Communications, Kaplan will now take over the title of President of Content at Discovery Networks International.

Relocating to London, Kaplan will be the international content leader responsible for strategy, coordination, and execution of all the division’s content and brand strategies across the entire portfolio, and on all platforms worldwide. With nearly 3 billion subscribers in over 220 countries, that’s no small mandate. Discovery’s business is now 55% outside the U.S. and Zaslav recently said he felt like international growth was “just getting started.”

In June, the company acquired exclusive TV and multiplatform rights to the 2018-2024 Olympic Games across Europe, and last month took full ownership of pan-regional sports platform Eurosport. Part of Kaplan’s new job will be to create content and storytelling ideas to maximize the value of the Olympic franchise across Europe, working closely with the Eurosport team.

Her previous accomplishments at Discovery inlcude launching Discovery Kids; growing Animal Planet into a top 20 network for men in the U.S.; and running TLC. Her creative credits include Whale Wars, River Monsters, Treehouse Masters, My Big Fat Fabulous Life and I Am Jazz.
