Rhys Ifans To Star In Epix Series ‘Berlin Station’

Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man) is set to star opposite Richard Jenkins in Berlin Station, Epix’s first original scripted drama. The 10-episode contemporary spy series, from Paramount TV and Anonymous Content, follows Daniel Meyer, a newly anointed case officer who has arrived at the CIA foreign station in Berlin to uncover the source of a leak who has supplied information to a whistleblower. Guided by jaded veteran, Case Officer Hector DeJean (Ifans) — a darkly charming, tenacious agent who works for Chief Steven Frost (Jenkins) — Daniel learns to contend with the rough-and-tumble world of the field agent — agent-running, deception, the dangers and moral compromises.

“Rhys is an international star whose ability to play a wide range of characters has placed him in the rarefied group of actors who travel seamlessly between feature films and premium television,” said Epix president and CEO Mark S. Greenberg, Added Paramount TV president Amy Powell, “Rhys is a skillful and transcendent actor, and his charismatic onscreen presence make him a perfect fit for this role.”

Michaël Roskam is executive producing the straight-to-series drama and will direct the first two episodes. Bestselling spy novelist Olen Steinhauer (The Tourist), who wrote the first episode, will write and executive produce the series. Brad Winters (Dig) is executive producer/showrunner. Other executive producers include Eric Roth as well as Steve Golin, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Keith Redmon and Luke Rivett from Anonymous Content.

Production on the series is scheduled to begin this fall and premiere on Epix in fall 2016.

Ifans, repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, UTA and Kate Buckley at 42 in London, has several upcoming movies: Len And Company, Under Milk Wood, Dominion, Snowden and Alice Through The Looking Glass. In TV, he has recurred on CBS’ Elementary.
