Chad Hartigan Sets Next Film ‘Morris From America’ With Craig Robinson & Carla Juri

EXCLUSIVE: Chad Hartigan has set his follow-up to This Is Martin Bonner, which won the writer-director the John Cassavetes Award at the 2013 Indie Spirit Awards. Production is now underway in Germany on Morris From America, which stars Craig Robinson and Carla Juri in a coming-of-age tale about a 13-year-old hip-hop-loving American boy Morris (newcomer Markees Christmas) who moves to Heidelberg with his father (Robinson) and is forced to navigate the trials and tribulations of adolescence in a foreign place. Juri plays Morris’ German tutor and chief confidant. Lina Keller, Jakub Gierszal, Eva Löbau and Levin Henning co-star.

Lichtblick Media GMBH and Beachside Films are co-producing the pic, which is being produced by Sara Murphy, Adele Romanski, Martin Heisler and Gabriele Simon, with Michael B. Clark and Alex Turtletaub executive producing.

Hartigan’s Martin Bonner, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, was also a tale of a central character displaced and forced to adapt to new surroundings. Hartigan directed and co-wrote that one with Tara Everhart. Hartigan is repped by UTA, Mosaic and attorney Gregory Slewett.

Morris From America, a romantic drama,  is a bit of a departure for Robinson, a comedic actor whose NBC sitcom Mr Robinson debuts August 5. He is repped by UTA and 3 Arts.

Swiss actress Juri (Wetlands) is repped by UTA and Anonymous Content, and Gierszal by Mosaic.
