‘The Last Kingdom’: BBC America Reveals Premiere Date & Key Art

BBC America has set 10 PM ET Saturday, October 10 for the premiere of its new original series The Last Kingdom. We’re also getting a first look at the Game Of Thrones-esque epic series with just-released key art.

Set in the 9th century, the eight-part historical drama is an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s best-selling series of books The Saxon Stories, penned by Stephen Butchard,. Described as a contemporary story of redemption, vengeance and self-discovery, The Last Kingdom follows young warrior and outsider, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), on a fierce mission to reclaim his birthright. The series will combine real historical figures and events with fictional characters during the reign of Alfred the Great, who as King of Wessex fought off a Viking invasion.

In the photo above, we see Uhtred (Tom Taylor) as an 11-year-old boy watching from Bebbanburg Fortress as invading Viking ships approach. Below, we see Uhtred (Dreymon) as an adult warrior.

The international cast also includes Rutger Hauer,Matthew Macfadyen, David Dawson, Emily Cox, Ian Hart, Tobias Santelmann; Thomas W. Gabrielsson, Peter Gantzler, Joseph Millson, Alexandre Willaume, Rune Temte and Henning Valin Jakobsen.
