VOD platform MUBI has inked a multiyear distribution deal with Sony Pictures Television. This new partnership marks the first major studio deal for MUBI and will make Sony Pictures Television films available on demand for MUBI members. The deal is currently exclusive to the UK market and will feature classic titles including Taxi Driver, Closer, Dr.Strangelove and Snatch.
“MUBI is already curating the best of cinema for its audience – international film has been at the core of our film selection but this deal will allow us to program some of the greatest and most popular films ever made,” said MUBI founder and CEO Efe Cakarel. “As our industry and consumer habits continue to evolve, it is increasingly important to ensure film fans have access to high quality entertainment wherever and whenever they want and this new partnership with Sony Pictures Television will allow us to deliver an even richer experience for our members.”
MUBI’s USP is offering viewers a selective service akin to an online film festival, with a new film highlighted every day with multiple social networking features designed to cater to a discerning, cineaste clientele. Today’s announcement follows MUBI’s recent deals with other key distribution partners including eOne, Icon and StudioCanal and allows the company to continue its expansion in terms of offering and also audience reach.
