‘Celebrity Family Feud’ Ratings Fall, ‘American Odyssey’ Ends Even, ‘Big Brother’ Sunday Premiere Steady

With less premiere competition from cable than last week, Sunday’s primetime saw one whimpering exit, one sluggish slot debut and some Week 2 blows across the Big 4. That departure was the tractionless American Odyssey (0.4/1), which saw its first and likely last season finale even with its June 21 show among adults 18-49 to match a low. A big canvas global story that NBC had big hopes for, last night’s American Odyssey was down 64% in the demo from its already soft April 5 debut behind the premiere of A.D. The Bible Continues. With the Mark Burnett and Roma Downey produced series having wrapped its first run last week down 70% from its opener, no surprise NBC isn’t jumping to give either show a second run. With American Odyssey preceded by an I Can Do That encore, the earlier part of NBC’s night saw the 7 PM Dateline (0.7/3) up 17% and the 8 PM Dateline: My Kid Would Never Do That (0.8/3) rising 14%.

Over on competitive ABC it was Week 2 for Celebrity Family Feud (1.8/7) and Battle Bots (1.4/5) and that hurt. Despite the participation of pro-footballers and reality stars, the Steve Harvey hosted CFF took a 25% hit from its June 21 premiere and CFF’s mechanical lead-out was busted up to the tune of 25% in the 18-49s from its debut. Overall, CFF was the top-rated and, with 8.14 million tuning in, most-watched show of the night for the second week in a row, while ABC was No. 1 in the demo with a 1.2/4 rating. CBS got the gold for viewership with 5.25 million watching, ahead of ABC’s 5.2 million.

CBS had a small 5-minute Golf overrun that went into the 60 Minutes encore and then pushed some of the news mag into the Sunday debut of this season’s Big Brother (1.7/6)/ While that will get all sorted out in final nationals, as it stands right now last night’s BB dipped 6% from the Sunday June 29 premiere of last year. In fast nationals, that’s a Sunday series low for Big Brother but that could change in adjustments later.

Fox’s only original of the night was Golan The Insatiable (0.5/2), which was down a tenth from its last new show two weeks ago.
