Disney’s ‘Inside Out’ Over $100M, ‘Cinderella’ Dancing Toward $200M In Field Of Heavy Hitters


EXCLUSIVE: Inside Out just became the 13th film this year to cross $100M at the domestic box office and the third one past that milestone so far for the Walt Disney Company. cinderellaThe studio’s Cinderella is expected to cross $200M this weekend and right now sits as the fourth-highest grosser of the year behind three other very strong and well-established feature franchises. The strength of little girls … go figure.

And we expect Jurassic World to stomp past Avengers: Age Of Ultron as the No. 1 grossing film of 2015 to date as it made an estimated $11.7M last night alone. It has dino-soared to an estimated cume of $414.5M as of today.

While last year saw 17 films cross $100M in the same point in the cycle, the highest grossing film last year at this point was Marvel/Disney’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier at $259.8M. There were zero titles over $300M last year at this point. Despite not having as many titles over $100M, 2015 is still ahead by about 6.3% from 2014, according to Rentrak.

Jurassic World logoThis year, we have three titles already over that mark and two over $400M. They are Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron (est. $449.7M), the aforementioned Universal’s Jurassic World (est. $414.5M) and Universal’s Furious 7 (est. $351M) with Cinderella sitting pretty right behind these box office monsters.

Universal has the most highest grossers to date this year with four films (including Pitch Perfect 2 and Fifty Shades Of Grey) all well over $1ooM, and the studio will bow the sequel to its raunchy comedy Ted this weekend. Disney is next with three titles. Warner Bros. and Fox following with two each. For Warner Bros., it has San Andreas and Mad Max: Fury Road and for Fox, it saw DreamWorks Animation’s Home and its Kingsman: The Secret Service head over $100M each. Lionsgate and Paramount have one each: Insurgent (LGF) and SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water (PAR) .
