‘Deadly Adoption’ Opens To Tune Of 2.1 Million

Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s Lifetime movie,  A Deadly Adoption logged 2.1 million in its Saturday night premiere.  For comparison sake, Lifetime’s  unauthorized-by-the-family Whitney Houston biopic,  in January, logged 4.5 million total viewers – 2.1 million in the 25-54 demo alone.

And, one year earlier, Lifetime’s TV movie Flowers In The Attic was seen by 6.1 million total viewers, which was then the network’s best original movie performance since the premiere of Steel Magnolias drew 6.5 million viewers in October 2012.

Steel Magnolias  became Lifetime’s third-most-watched original telecast ever back then, posting the network’s best delivery since 2006 (Life Is Not A Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story). The television adaptation of the play and 1989 film, starring and EP’d by Queen Latifah, also became the No. 1 two-hour cable movie among total viewers since 2007.

To achieve similar results, Lifetime had to cume the six initial telecasts of Deadly Adoption, which grossed more than 6 million viewers – 1 million of them in the 25-54 demo. Back in ’12, Sony Pictures TV-produced Steel Magnolias averaged 3.2 million viewers in that age bracket, which was then Lifetime’s best delivery in that demo for a movie in 17 years
