Elizabeth Banks and producing partner Max Handelman are expanding into television. The Pitch Perfect producers have signed an exclusive overall producing deal with Warner Bros Television for their Brownstone Productions. Under the multi-year pact, the duo will develop and produce new series for the studio. Two years ago, WBTV similarly helped another alumna of an NBC comedy, Parks & Recreation‘s Rashida Jones, who launched a TV production company with partner Will McCormack at the studio.
In TV, Brownstone is developing the HBO Bobby Riggs-Billie Jean King biopic starring Banks as King and Paul Giamatti as Riggs. On-screen, Banks’ TV roles include recurring stints on NBC’s 30 Rock and ABC’s Modern Family.
On the film side, Banks and Handelman most recently produced Pitch Perfect 2 which Banks also directed and appears in. They have a feature production deal at Universal where they are developing several projects, including Pitch Perfect 3 and Red Queen, which is based on the YA novel and which Banks would also direct. Brownstone’s slate also includes White Girl Problems and Heist Society at Lionsgate as well as Dirty Rush at Tristar.
Banks is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
