‘San Andreas’ Cracks $100M Plate Domestically, $300M Global – Box Office

Warner Bros.’ disaster film San Andreas rippled past $100M domestically last night after two weekends and a day in release. San-Andreas-The-Rock-645x370The film, which stars social media darling Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, now has a worldwide total of $300M, having hauled in another $97.7M as of Sunday internationally in its second weekend. Of that take, $51M came from China alone. The New Line Cinema film is currently playing in 68 markets.

This weekend at the domestic box office, the film about the Big One in California held well in its sophomore frame, dropping 53% in what was another soft weekend at North American turnstiles. Specifically, the domestic take right now sits at $101.1M, and the international gross as of Sunday was $188.5M. With its much-better-than-anticipated $54.59M opening two weekends ago, San Andreas pushed Warner Bros. to No. 1 in market share from January through Memorial Day with $852.3M. The film was produced by Beau Flynn and directed by Brad Peyton from a script by Carlton Cuse.
