No one expected it to be as big as the audience that tuned in for Megyn Kelly’s interview with Josh Duggar’s parents on June 3 but the sisters/victims defense of their brother’s “bad choices” certainly attracted a big crowd on cable. The Kelly File’s Friday night exclusive with 19 Kids And Counting co-stars Jill Dillard and Jessa Seewald drew 2.22 million overall viewers and 641,000 in the adults 25-54 demo.
While down 28% in total viewers from the 3.1 million that the Wednesday interview with the parents pulled in, Friday’s Kelly File was up 35% rise from what the Fox News Channel show got at 9 PM on May 29. Compared to the demo results for the June 3 interview, Friday’s taped piece with Jill and Jessa slid 25%. However, the 25-54 results for The Kelly File sit-down with two of the five girls Josh Duggar molested, according to his own parents, was up 114% from the previous Friday.
Those demo numbers translate into a 0.6 rating for The Kelly File, the best the show has done on a Friday among the 25-54 since it debuted in October 2013. The previous news demo end of week high was 401,000 on March 20 this year. Overall the June 5 25-54 results are the 10th-biggest result The Kelly File has ever had in the news demo.
There is no final word on whether or not TLC is bringing 19 Kids And Counting back or if it is truly cancelled as a result of this scandal. The 10-season show was yanked from the cable network’s schedule on May 22 after oldest son Josh admitted to having fondled children back in 2002-03, including some of of his sisters. His parents Jim Bob and Michelle have said that Duggar molested four of his sisters while a teenager.
