NBC Sports Group has pacted with golf’s British Open organizers the R&A on a long-term media partnership in the U.S. beginning with The Open, one of pro golf’s four major championships. Beginning in 2017 at Britain’s Royal Birkdale and spanning 12 years, the deal returns The Open and the Women’s British Open to broadcast TV for the first time in eight years after the R&A winds down its contract with cable giant ESPN.

The new deal also will put The Open on NBCU’s Golf Channel, which will mark that network’s first live coverage of a men’s major championship. It also covers live Spanish-language golf coverage on NBC Universo.

The overall deal includes coverage across all media of The Open, The Senior Open Championship, and The Amateur Championship, as well as the RICOH Women’s British Open, in partnership with the Ladies’ Golf Union. The agreement also includes coverage of the Walker Cup and Curtis Cup in years when these international amateur team events are hosted by The R&A and Ladies’ Golf Union.
