The first trailer for Universal Pictures’ Everest dropped today and it is provides a chilling glimpse at what must be one of the most terrifying sights ever: What happens when you reach the peak of the world’s most famous mountain and see one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered heading your way? That’s the premise for Baltasar Kormakur’s pic, based on the true story of a hiking expedition that turned tragic fast. (In fact, the film’s second unit crew was in the vicinity when an April 2014 avalanche killed 13 — though there were no injuries or fatalities on the film when a wall of ice 1,000 feet up fell off at the left shoulder of the mountain and crashed down on Base 2.)
Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal highlight the loaded cast here. It looks like Kormakur has brought his game from 2012’s The Deep, another survival story he made epic in scope. This one is in 3D and Imax 3D.
Universal released the film September 18, and it’s a co-production between Universal, Working Title and Cross Creek Pictures in association with Walden Media. William Nicholson and Simon Beaufoy penned the script.
