Spanish-Language Stations Lead L.A. Area Emmy Nominations

A pair of Spanish-language broadcasters lead the field for the 67th annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards as Univision’s KMEX came away with 24 nominations and Telemundo’s KVEA scooped 18. KMEX also scored the most nominations last year but ended up settling for third place behind NBC4 and ABC7 when the hardware was handed out.

Sister channels CBS2 and KCAL9 combined for 15 mentions, good for third place, followed by KCET and NBC4 with 12 apiece. KTLA got 10, tied with Time Warner Cable’s Dodger station SportsNet LA.

Competing for the marquee trophy of best daily evening newscast — a station award for which all entrants are eligible rather than being nominated — are the 10 PM programs on KCAL9, KTLA5 and Fox’s KTTV along with the 11 PM telecasts on KMEX, KVEA and NBC4, which won the 2014 award.

A complete list of nominees is here. Winners in the 46 categories will be announced July 25 during a ceremony at the Skirball Cultural Center’s Guerin Pavilion in Herscher Hall.
