‘Daddy’s Home’ Release Date Set For Christmas Day

Paramount Pictures has thrown its present under the box office Christmas tree, today setting a December 25, 2015 wide release for Daddy’s Home, the comedy that reteams Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. Horrible Bosses 2 helmers Sean Anders and John Morris directed the pic, which remember was originally set up with Vince Vaughn and Ferrell, with Etan Cohen directing. That package fell apart, and Wahlberg came aboard to pair with his co-star of the 2010 hit The Other Guys. Production began last fall so this was on a fast-track.

Originally scripted by Brian Burns, Adam McKay & Chris Henchy and Cohen, Daddy’s Home stars Ferrell as a mild-mannered radio executive who strives to become the best stepdad ever to his wife’s two children. Complications ensue when their freewheeling, freeloading real father (Wahlberg) arrives, forcing the stepdad to compete for the affection of the kids. Ferrell and Adam McKay are producing through Gary Sanchez Productions, whose Henchy, Kevin Messick and Jessica Elbaum executive produce. Red Granite is co-financing with Riza Aziz, Joey McFarland and David Koplan executive producing.

Christmas Day 2015 is filling up fast, with spots already staked out by most of the big distribs. On a Friday this year, fellow releases include Fox’s latest Alvin And The Chipmunks (bowing that Wednesday), Sony’s football drama Concussion, Warner Bros’ Point Break, Open Road’s Oliver Stone pic Snowden and Fox’s The Revenant in limited release. Disney’s little pic called Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens the Friday before.
