Marlon Wayans ’50 Shades Of Grey’ Spoof Handcuffed By Open Road

BREAKING: Open Road acquired U.S. rights to Fifty Shades Of Black, the Marlon Wayans comedy that IM Global is producing and funding. I’m told final bidding came down to The Weinstein Company and Relativity, and that Open Road paid a $5 million minimum guarantee and committed to a wide January 29, 2016 release date. It helped that Open Road worked with Wayans and IM Global on the Michael Tiddes-directed A Haunted House. Tiddes is directing this as well. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films and Stuart Ford, CEO of IM Global.

Wayans will star in and write the spoof film with longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez. Ford produces with Wayans and Alvarez. IM Global’s Matt Jackson, Glendon Palmer and Steve Squillante are executive producing.

“Our love for Marlon Wayans is unmatched and, along with our friends at IM Global, we can’t wait to introduce the world to Mr. Black,” stated Tom Ortenberg. CAA packaged the project and brokered the deal. UTA reps Wayans.
