Maxim Roy Joins ‘Shadowhunters’ On ABC Family

Maxim Roy as been cast as a recurring guest star in ABC Family’s straight-to-series drama Shadowhunters. She will play Clary Fray’s mother, Jocelyn Fray.

Based on the best-selling young-adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary (Katherine McNamara) who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn (Roy) is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and her best friend Simon (Alberto Rosende). Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold. Cast also includes Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Harry Shum Jr, and Alan Van Sprang in a recurring role.

Jocelyn’s character is described as a very beautiful, warm, protective and bold woman, who on the surface leads a normal life running an antiquities store. We will learn, however, that she harbors many secrets about a past life, particularly her ties to an ancient group of supernatural beings known as Shadowhunters. In order to defend Clary from danger, Jocelyn transforms from single mom back into one of the most lethal Shadowhunters that ever lived.

Shadowhunters is produced by Constantin Film and executive produced by Ed Decter and McG. McG will also direct the first episode.
