‘Rock The Kasbah’ Release Date Moved; ‘Michelle Darnell’, ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ & ‘Custody’ Add Cast
The Barry Levinson-directed comedy Rock The Kasbah starring Bill Murray as a rock manager who has seen better times, is being moved up from November 13 to October 23, which looks like a very good date as it is it not competing with any adult comedies. The move comes after Universal last week put Angelina Jolie’s drama By The Sea (starring Brad Pitt) into the November 13 date, which now has four other films in release that weekend, including Warner Bros’ The 33. The film, being distributed by Open Road, also stars Zooey Deschanel, who is on a USO tour of Afghanistan and is the last remaining client of the manager. She leaves him penniless and without his passport in Kabul. It was written by Mitch Glazer and also stars Kate Hudson, Danny McBride, Scott Caan, Leem Lubany, Arian Moayed, Beejan Land and Bruce Willis. It had initially been scheduled for April 24, 2015. It is produced by Glazer, Ethan Smith, Bill Block, Jacob Pechenik and Steve Bing; executive producers are Tom Ortenberg, Peter Lawson, Sasha Shapiro, Anton Lessine, Brian Grazer, Tom Freston and Marsha Swinton.
Nickelodeon’s Ella Anderson (Henry Danger) is joining Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell, and Peter Dinklage in the Universal feature Michelle Darnell, playing the daughter of Bell. The film tells the story of Michelle (Melissa McCarthy), a famous self-help guru who gets into serious trouble with some financial dealings and has to start all over with the help of her long-time assistant, Claire (Bell). Anderson is a well-known face from a number of Disney Channel programs including A.N.T. Farm, Dog With A Blog, and Liv And Maddie. She also co-starred in the upcoming feature Unfinished Business with Vince Vaughn and Dave Franco. Anderson is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency and Leslie Allan-Rice Management.
Diego Luna has landed a co-starring role in the next installment of the Star Wars feature series, Star Wars: Rogue One which also stars Felicity Jones and Ben Mendelsohn. It was first reported in Deadline’s sister publication, Variety. The film will be released by Disney in December. Luna, who directed and produced Cesar Chavez, also was part of the cast of Milk, Elysium, The Terminal and memorably Y Tu Mama Tambien. He is repped by WME.
Valerie Cruz (The Following) has joined the cast of the courtroom drama Custody. Written and directed by Into The Woods‘ writer James Lapine, Custody is about a single mother, Sarah Diaz, who wrongfully ends up in family court in New York City, and the judge and lawyer she faces there. Cruz joins Viola Davis, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Ellen Burstyn, Tony Shalhoub and Hayden Panettiere in the film, which began production in New York this week. Cruz’s other recent credits include The Loft and the upcoming My First Christmas. Her TV credits include Dexter, Homeland, Necessary Roughness and Alphas. She’s represented by Innovative Artists and Authentic Talent And Literary Management.
