Noomi Rapace is set to play iconic opera singer Maria Callas in the feature biopic Callas. Niki Caro (McFarland USA) is attached to direct from a screenplay she adapted from Alsfonso Signorini’s biography Too Proud, Too Fragile. Content Media has come aboard to handle world sales. The biopic focuses on the passionate relationship between the diva and Aristotle Onassis which spanned almost two decades.
This is a long-gestating project that resurfaced in Cannes last year, before Rapace and Content’s involvement. It’s now fully financed. Producers are Guido, Nicola and Marco De Angelis of De Angelis Group; René Bastian, Linda Moran and Victoria Bousis of Belladonna Productions; and Ben Latham-Jones of the Ealing Studios and Londinium Films.
James Spring of Ealing Studios, Brett Thornquest of Eclectic Vision in Australia, Jason Van Eman of Weathervane, and Jamie Carmichael of Content are Executive Producers.
Rapace, who recently joined SND’s What Happened To Monday?, is repped by Magnolia and CAA.
