‘Ivory Rising’ Docu Targets Poaching & Trafficking; IFC Midnight Buys ‘One & Two’; ‘Soaked In Bleach’ Set For Theaters, VOD

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s Vulcan Productions is teaming for the first time with Terra Mater Film Studios, the cinema brand of Red Bull, to produce Ivory Rising, a feature documentary about the the war against ivory poaching and trafficking. The companies said that filmmakers who cannot be named for security reasons are filming undercover with the support of government agencies and NGOs across Africa to capture new evidence about the darkest side of the ivory trade. The film aims to raise awareness of the ivory trade, its connections to terrorism and the imminent threat of extinction to the African elephant. “We have already seen early footage from the undercover operations, and we know that we have a ground-breaking film in the making.” said Walter Köhler, CEO of Terra Mater, which will launch international sales at the Cannes Film Market.

IFC Midnight has acquired U.S. rights to One & Two, a drama that premiered at Berlin. The film is set in a mysterious One & Twofarmhouse, where a family of four maintains a routine and isolated existence. As siblings Eva (Kiernan Shipka) and Zac (Timothée Chalamet) explore unusual abilities and dark family secrets, their loving mother falls gravely ill, splintering the family and threatening to tear the children apart. , Grant Bowler and Elizabeth Reaser also star in the pic from director Andrew Droz Palermo, who co-wrote it with Neima Shahdadi. “I’m thrilled to work with IFC Midnight on the release of One & Two,” Palermo said. “Their enthusiasm for our film is palpable and genuine.” The deal was negotiated with WME Global on behalf of the filmmakers. Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales.

Vimeo and Emerging Pictures have set June 11 for the day-and-date North American release of Benjamin Statler’s Soaked in Bleachdocudrama Soaked In Bleach. The film explores the controversy surrounding Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s death as seen through the eyes of Tom Grant (Daniel Roebuck), the private investigator hired by Courtney Love in 1994 to track down her missing husband days before his body was found. Narrated by Grant, the film develops as a narrative mystery with cinematic recreations, interviews with key experts and witnesses and the examination of official artifacts from the case. The deal was brokered by Derek Dressler, Vimeo’s Director of Content Acquisitions, and VMI Worldwide on behalf of the filmmakers.
