EXCLUSIVE: DeObia Oparei, the UK actor who plays Prince Doran’s captain of the guard Areo Hotah on HBO’s Game Of Thrones, has booked a role in 20th Century Fox’s Independence Day 2. The sequel to the monster 1996 original that made $811 million worldwide is currently in production in New Mexico and has a June 24, 2016, release date.
Oparei will play Dikembe, the Oxford-educated son of an African warlord. He joins a cast for the Roland Emmerich-directed pic that includes the returning Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox as well as Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Sela Ward. In the sequel, the aliens mount a seemingly invincible retaliation. Screenplay was written by Emmerich and Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt, James A.Woods & Nicolas Wright. Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser are producers.
Oparei first appeared in Episode 2 of Game Of Thrones‘ current fifth season, and he recurs throughout the second half of the season (he has a point of view in the George R.R. Martin books). Areo Hotah is famous for the battle ax he carries with him. Before GoT, Oparei was best known for roles in Dredd and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. He is repped by Authentic Talent & Literary Management, Scott Marshall Partners in the UK and Lisa Mann Management in Australia.
