Dan Sterling Inks Overall Deal At 20th TV, Joins ‘Last Man On Earth’ As Showrunner

Former The OfDan Sterlingfice executive producer Dan Sterling has closed a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Under the pact, he will join the studios’s freshman Fox comedy series The Last Man On Earth, recently renewed for a second season, as executive producer and showrunner. In taking over showrunner duties, Sterling will relieve series creator, executive producer and star Will Forte, who juggled all roles for the show’s original 13-episode straight-to-series order. Sterling will executive produce Last Man alongside Forte, Chris Miller & Phil Lord.

“Getting Dan to come to the studio is such a big win for us,” said 20th TV President of Creative Affairs Jonnie Davis. “It’s bold and original voices like Dan’s which continue to set our company apart from the others, and we’ve had a fantastic time developing with him this past year. He’s also quite possibly Last Man on Earth‘s biggest fan, so having him set up shop here and run that show has us all over the moon.”

Earlier this season, Sterling developed a multi-camera comedy comedy with Lord and Miller through the duo’s deal at 20th TV, which landed at CBS with a put pilot commitment.

Sterling, repped by UTA and attorney Robert Offer, served as an executive producer on the final season of NBC’s long-running comedy The Office. He also co-created/executive produced Sarah Silverman’s NBC comedy pilot and served as a consulting producer on the HBO comedy series Girls. On the feature side, he co-wrote the controversial Sony comedy The Interview.
