Jamie Bell, Mark Strong, Abbie Cornish Join Toa Fraser’s ‘6 Days’ – Cannes

abbie cornishmark strongEXCLUSIVE: Toa Fraser’s embassy siege thriller 6 Days has been generating buzz since the project was first announced last fall. Principal cast has now been set for the Auckland-based helmer’s follow-up to The Dead Lands with Jamie Bell, Mark Strong and Abbie Cornish starring. 6 Days is a re-team for Fraser with his Dead Lands writer Glenn Standring, producer Matthew Metcalfe, and XYZ Films which is executive producing and selling in Cannes. Icon previously acquired UK rights. WME Global is co-repping North America with XYZ.

The film is based on the actual events of April 1980 when six armed gunmen stormed the Iranian Embassy at London’s Princess Gate taking over two dozen people hostage. Six days of tense standoff ensued as a group of highly trained soldiers from Britain’s Special Air Service prepared to raid the building. Former members of the SAS who participated in the siege will act as consultants during production.

Principal photography is scheduled to start on 6 Days this summer. Apollo Media’s Gavin Poolman and Andrea Scarso of the Ingenious Senior Film Fund are also exec producers, as well as Ian Dawson and Norman Humphrey of Icon. Lip Sync Productions’ Norman Merry will co-produce. The official New Zealand/UK co-production is financed by the New Zealand Film Commission, Lip Sync, Ingenious and General Film Corporation.

Bell, who’s repped by UTA and manager Vanessa Pereira, will next be seen in the reboot of Fantastic Four. Strong, recently seen in The Imitation Game and Kingsman: The Secret Service, has Grimsby and Jadotville on deck; Cornish is coming up in Dean Devlin’s Geostorm. She and Strong are repped by WME.

Fraser’s Maori-language The Dead Lands premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year where it was acquired by Magnolia’s Magnet Releasing. It was also New Zealand’s official Oscar entry. Fraser is repped by Paradigm and Echo Lake Management.
