Michael Harvey Crime Novel ‘Brighton’ Collared By Graham King’s GK Films

EXCLUSIVE: Graham King has acquired for GK Films the rights to Brighton, a fictional crime thriller by novelist, documentarian and Emmy-winning producer Michael Harvey. There was competition for the book, which hit the auction block late last week, and it puts King back in the Boston organized crime genre, where he had two of the biggest recent successes in The Departed and The Town.

In Brighton, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist is drawn back into his crime-ridden Boston neighborhood to investigate a series of murders that appear to be the work of his childhood friend, who once saved the journo from a life of crime. King will produce it; Grey Rembert was the GK Films exec who brought in the project. RWSG’s Sylvie Rabineau brokered the deal for lit agent David Gernert of The Gernert Company.

The book is in the process of being set for a publishing deal.

Harvey’s past works include The Innocence Game, We All Fall Down and The Third Rail. His latest, The Governor’s Wife, will be published by Knopf. He also co-created, wrote and was exec producer of the Emmy-nominated show Cold Case Files, and worked as an investigative producer for CBS in Chicago. He received an Oscar nomination for his Holocaust documentary Eyewitness.
