Newly Retitled ‘Ouija’ Sequel A Go For October 2016 – Update

UPDATED, June 21: Universal said today that Ouija 2 has been retitled as Ouija: Origin of Evil. It’s October 21 release date is unchanged.

PREVIOUSLY, April 30, 2015: It’s official. Ouija 2 is coming. Universal has set October 21, 2016, for the Ouija sequel, with Oculus scribes Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard attached to pen the screenplay. The date initially was penciled in as the release for Untitled Blumhouse Horror 3, what was to be the last of three Blumhouse Prods horror flicks announced last year.

Universal Logo NewOuija 2 picks up with a group of unsuspecting friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they unleash an evil from the other side that only they can send back. Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, Blumhouse Prods’ Jason Blum, Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis again are onboard as producers.

The first Ouija, a microbudget pic from Blumhouse Prods, was a sleeper hit, making $19.8M in its opening weekend to take the No. 1 spot at the box office. It went on to gross $50.8 million domestically and $100 million worldwide.

Universal will handle worldwide distribution. Flanagan and Howard are repped by APA and Nelson Davis LLP.
