Damián Szifron Will Build ‘Six Billion Dollar Man’ Script

We can rebuild him. We have the technology. And now we have a screenwriter. Damián Szifron is set to pen The Six Billion Dollar Man, TWC-Dimension’s fiscally updated take on the 1970s action series. The Argentine filmmaker scored a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nom this year for Wild Tales, which he wrote and directed.

Mark Wahlberg is starring as Steve Austin, the military officer played by Lee Majors in the 1974-78 ABC series. Austin becomes part of a top-secret government program after a horrific and near-fatal accident. Cutting-edge technology turns him into the world’s first truly bionic man: better, stronger, faster. Wahlberg also is producing along with Stephen Levinson and Bob Weinstein. Peter Berg directs.

“I couldn’t be more honored and grateful,” said Szifron. “Such a major challenge represents a great opportunity. The themes surrounding this beloved property allow for the creation of a memorable sci-fi actioner as well as a bold spy thriller. Expectations are high and I’ll do my best to deliver the strongest basis for an amazing cinematic experience.”

Szifron is set to make his English-language film debut with a mysterious thriller for TriStar that he will write, produce and direct, and the logline is being kept under wraps. He is repped by WME and attorney Carlos Goodman.
