‘Deadliest Catch’ Renewed As Discovery Channel Bags Demo Wins

It might have been the unofficial first week of the 2016 presidential campaign, and pot-series premiere week, but Discovery Channel finished first in the news demo – ages 25-54 – for the April 13-19 frame after Live+3 viewing stats showed up. Discovery also finished first among cable nets for the week with 18- to 49-year-olds. It’s Discovery Channel’s first such weekly win in both demos since Shark Week 2014.

Discovery owes much to three programs: Deadliest Catch, Naked and Afraid and Fast ‘N Loud; they were network’s most-watched primetime programs of the week in both demos.

Deadliest Catch ranked No. 1 among unscripted cable show in the news demo (2.44 million) and the younger age bracket, beating all news programs — not to mention all of Bravo’s housewives. Naked and Afraid ranked No. 3 in the 25-54 bracket (2.14 million), behind only Bravo’s Real Housewives Of Atlanta (2.27 mil). Following N&A was Spike TV’s new Lip Sync Battle (1.84 million) and Bravo’s Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills. (1.79 million).

To celebrate, Discovery picked up a 12th season of Deadliest Catch just a few episodes into Season 11. Typically, a season of Deadliest runs about 16 epsiodes. This season premiered on April 14 to 4.03 million viewers of all ages in Live+3 ratings.
