Marc Blucas Joins WGN America Series ‘Underground’ In Recasting

Buffy The Vampire Slayer alum Marc Blucas has been cast as a regular in Underground, WGN America’s upcoming pre-Civil War series about the Underground Railroad. He will play John Hawkes in the series from Sony Pictures TV and Tribune Studios, replacing Devon Gummersall, who was originally cast in the role. The change was made before the straight-to-series drama started production on its 10-episode order.

Underground follows a group of slaves who plan a daring escape from a Georgia plantation to cross 600 miles to freedom. They are aided along the way by a secret abolitionist couple running a station on the Underground Railroad, as they evade those tasked with bringing them back — dead or alive. Blucas’ John Hawkes is an abolitionist lawyer who will break the laws he’s sworn to uphold in order to serve a greater good.

Paradigm-repped Blucas recently was seen in Sleeping With Other People, which premiered at Sundance and screened at Tribeca.
