‘City Of Tiny Lights’ Filming To Start, NBCU Sets Italian ‘Parenthood’ – Global Briefs

London-set film noir thriller City Of Tiny Lights, written by Patrick Neate based on his novel, will begin principal photography April 27. Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point, Endgame, Dredd), the movie stars Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) who plays down at heel gumshoe Tommy Akhtar, and Billie Piper (Penny Dreadful, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) plays Shelley, his long lost love.  Ensemble cast includes Cush Jumbo (Josephine And I, The Inbetweeners), James Floyd (My Brother The Devil, Everywhere And Nowhere) and Roshan Seth (Indian Summers, Gandhi, My Beautiful Laundrette). Project is produced by Ado Yoshizaki-Cassuto and Rebecca O’Brien. It’s an NDF International and Sixteen Films production made with support of the BFI and BBC Films, in association with Lip Sync Productions, Fel UK and Ingenious Media. The movie will shoot for six weeks and will be released in the UK and Ireland in 2016 by Icon Film Distribution. BBC Films and BFI developed the script. Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales.

NBCUniversal Formats has brokered a deal with Italian production company Cattleya to produce the remake of long-running U.S. family drama Parenthood for Rai 1. Created by Jason Katims, Parenthood ran for more than a hundred episodes on NBC from 2010 to 2015. Parenthood marks Rai 1’s first U.S. scripted remake. Production on the Italian version, “Tutto Può Succedere” (Anything Could Happen) began April 20th, in Rome. Main cast includes Pietro Sermonti, Maya Sansa, Ana Caterina Morariu, Alessandro Tiberi, Camilla Filippi, Fabio Ghidoni, Licia Maglietta and Giorgio Colangeli. The 13-episode first season will debut on Rai 1 early next year.

Janeen Faithfull will step down from her role as CEO of Endemol Australia later this year prior to the company’s combination with Shine Australia. Faithfull said she had decided to leave the company after three years and pursue new opportunities.  Faithfull will continue to lead Endemol Australia until the transition.  The structure, leadership and start date of the new entity will be announced after the completion of an ongoing consultative process led by Martha Brass, Co-CEO International Operations, Endemol Shine Group.
